Why did you make a blog in the first place?

Good question. It seemed like a good idea at the time. It was 2000, I was a junior Java consultant at a large enterprisey organization. The internet was fresh. FreeRoller was hot in Java-land. I always loved the idea of sharing (personal) stuff with the world without knowing or caring who would actually read it.

Why did you choose your platform? (Blogger/Wordpress/Bear Blog/Pika)

Pika. Because it was hot at that time. Now because of its clean, minimal and easy usage. Just write. Even better: it’s built on Ruby on Rails and under very active development (I’ve been using Rails since 2003 so I’m a fan).

Have you blogged on other platforms before?

Oh yes. Too many. At one point I wrote my own: Amanda. Some of what I recall: FreeRoller, TypePad, BlogCity (or something like that), Moveable Type, WordPress, Jekyll, Amanda, Ghost, Blot.im, micro.blog, Scribbles, Pika. + the ones I can’t remember. I did always try to move/take my entire archive with me. Now, there’s a Jekyll archive, a Blot.im archive, a bit of micro.blog, a bit of Scribbles and Pika.

Do you write your posts directly in the editor or in another software?

Depends on the platform of course. All these file based platforms required an editor. These days I write everything in the Pika online editor (it’s great!) except this post. I wanted to try out Nisus Writer Pro.

When do you feel most inspired to write?

Whenever I have or take the time to do so.

Do you publish immediately after writing or do you let it simmer a bit as a draft?

I prefer to keep my posts short and easy. Mostly because I know I don’t like to read blogposts which are too long. Answer: publish immediately.

What’s your favourite post on your blog?

Nothing particular.

Any future plans for your blog? Maybe a redesign, changing the tag system, etc.?

I have nothing planned. I never did. For now I’m very happy with Pika but if you see my platform history … who knows?!
